Integrated management system supports quality management at EK-Pack Folien

The Allgäu is one of the centres of innovation in the packaging industry. And it is in this region, which the industry likes to call "Foil Valley", that EK-Pack Folien GmbH, founded in 1977, has established its headquarters. The medium-sized, family-run company with 215 employees develops and manufactures polymer films that are used primarily in the food industry, but also for pharmaceutical and cosmetic products, and for technical applications. EK-Pack's internationally sought-after high-barrier films come in a variety of material combinations. The genuine high-tech products are manufactured using extrusion, adhesive lamination and extrusion laminating processes. The ultra-thin yet heavy duty foils combine different functional layers and various coatings that are tailored to the requirements of the customer. These include, for example, specific sliding, peeling, sealing and anti-fog properties as well as different colourings and printings.

Customers from all over the world relay on film specialist EK-Pack - and on their impeccable quality management. In 2010, management decided to introduce a software-based integrated management system that would merge all norms and standards into a single platform. "It was particularly important for us to maintain all processes and document within one central system," says Marco Ziegler from the management of EK-Pack Folien GmbH.
The software solutions of ConSense GmbH matched the requirements of EK-Pack’. The Aachen based company is one of the technologically leading providers of software-driven solutions for process and quality management.

The Integrated Management System ConSense IMS PROFESSIONAL was implemented in March 2011. It combines the quality management standard DIN EN ISO 9001:2008 – now in its 2015 revision – with the BRC Global Standard for packaging and packaging materials as well as with the energy management system pursuant to ISO 50001:2011. The user-friendly software ensures compliance with the specific documentation regarding the various sets of rules. It provides comprehensive electronic support through the automation of routine processes, a systematic management of information flows and monitoring compliance with applicable standard specifications.
